Margaret Koch, BS, Executive Director

Margaret has a deep understanding and passionate commitment to the Healing Garden which stems from a long and active role as an officer on the Board of Directors. She brings great enthusiasm and expertise to implement the strategic plans for expanding The Garden to include all those affected by cancer, and those interested in learning to live well. She previously served as the Manager of Cancer Services at the Mass General Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital-Bethke, following many years in clinical trials research in the field of oncology.

Brianne Carter, LICSW, MTS, Co-Director of Wellness & Integrative Care

Brianne, joins The Healing Garden bringing an expansive breadth of experience and expertise to help support our growing client community and foster the expansion of our remarkable programs and therapeutic services. Following a Masters Degree in Theology from Harvard Divinity School and a Masters in Social Work from Smith School for Social Work, Brianne worked in community mental health, Emerson Hospital, and the Mass General Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital-Bethke.

Marcia Lewin-Berlin LICSW, AHPC-SW, Co-Director of Wellness & Integrative Care

Marcia comes to us with more than 10 years of clinical experience in home based hospice and palliative care. Her private practice and group facilitation practice spans the last 25 years. Her focus is to provide clinical support to patients with life changing illness and their families utilizing skills in family systems work, EMDR and strength perspective counseling. She is a Masters Level Reiki practitioner and uses mindfulness practices in her work with groups and with clients. She brings her whole heart and her life work as a empathic listener to everything she does at the Garden.

Alison Peterson, BS, Business Manager

Alison joined The Healing Garden in January 2013. For the past decade, she has been a volunteer board member for several nonprofits — including the Arlington Education Foundation and John A. Bishop Parent Teacher Organization. Her career spans from working as a Senior Manager at Ernst & Young to serving as the treasurer for several political campaigns in Massachusetts; and she is thrilled that it has ultimately brought her to work at The Healing Garden.

Kelly Marchand, BS, Care Coordinator

Kelly joined the Healing Garden in June 2015. She is our primary contact and liaison for our clients and therapists, providing insight into our programs and services, schedules appointments and manages the myriad of activities and operations on a daily basis.   Kelly’s warm and gentle demeanor makes everyone feel welcome at the Healing Garden. She welcomes you to reach out.

Leigh Carpenter, Director of Development

Leigh joins the Healing Garden with 10 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Her role at American Cancer Society ranged from volunteer recruitment & patient programming to fundraising and event management. Leigh is deeply committed to raising funds and therefore ensuring that anyone affected by cancer has access to the resources and support they need. Leigh welcomes you to reach out!

expressive arts therapy intern for cancer

Maria LaCreta, Expressive Arts Therapy Intern

Maria is fulfilling her remaining clinical hours at the Healing Garden, as our intern from the Master’s Program in clinical mental health counseling, Expressive Arts Therapies division, at Lesley University. She comes to us with a wide range of teaching experience in the visual arts, including work with children at immersive fine arts camps, young adults during her time as adjunct faculty at Mount Ida College, and adults at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. She has a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and works out of her studio in Somerville, MA. Maria is excited to be at the Healing Garden this year, merging her experiences as a teaching artist, with her skills as a growing clinician.
