ABOUT
About
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center, best known simply as “The Healing Garden” is a beautiful facility set in 8 acres of quiet woodlands and lovely gardens.
Inside, the center’s colors are comfortable and warm, taking cues from the works of the accomplished artist and Expressive Arts therapist, Candace Anderson. Her three-dimensional panel painting, “Be Like a Garden Watered,” welcomes everyone with a burst of flowers interwoven with quotes and poetry used in many Healing Garden workshops and classes. Below Candace’s panel is an exquisitely hand-crafted tiger maple bookcase that was donated to the Healing Garden.
Subtle yet embracing, the Garden Room features skylights, windows on three sides that overlook the gardens and the koi pond, a fireplace and radiant-heated floor providing warmth on chilly days, and comfortable chairs with soft pillows and hand-knit shawls.
En route to the Garden Room, one passes the larger, all-purpose workshop room. This airy room is used for exercise and movement activities, such as yoga and Qi Gong, for expressive arts workshops, and for lectures and meetings.
The Healing Garden also features two quiet treatment rooms, which are used for body/energy work such as massage, acupuncture, and Shiatsu. There is another cozy room that looks out to the back garden and is often used for quiet reading or private, one-on-one meetings and conversations.
