In this beginner Kintsugi workshop, we’ll explore the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold. Guided by a facilitator, participants will mend a broken object while reflecting on themes of resilience, healing, and transformation. No artistic experience is needed—just a willingness to create in a supportive, calm, and compassionate environment.
This workshop is inspired by the philosophy of Kintsugi rather than traditional museum-quality restoration techniques. The emphasis is on creativity, mindfulness, and creating a meaningful keepsake you’ll take home at the end of class.
・All materials and broken pieces are provided.
・This workshop uses synthetic materials for beginners. The finished piece is for decorative use only.
Open to clients only. If you have participated in this program in years past, we kindly ask that you email Chris to join the waitlist.

About the facilitator:
Sayako Hiroi is a Japanese visual artist based in Boston, working across painting and traditional kintsugi. Her practice responds to silence and erasure, and to the unseen traces of presence, drawing from feminist ethics and Japanese visual archives. She holds an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and a BA in Ethics from Keio University in Tokyo and has been an artist-in-residence at institutions including the Vermont Studio Center.
