Creative Mindfulness for Caregivers: Meditative Circle Drawings

  • May 22, 2023
  • Kelly Marchand

Caregiving can be challenging; practicing regular self-care can help the caregiver remain more balanced, focused, and effective, which helps everyone involved.

If you’ve ever experienced being so immersed in a creative activity that you’ve lost track of time, then you’ve experienced Creative Mindfulness! This happens because creative activities such as art making, crafting, and gardening ease us into a state of mindfulness by enhancing our capacity for focus, concentration, inner peace, and calm. Regularly spending time in a mindful state has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, help us sleep better, and promote a general sense of well-being. Alas, many of us find it difficult to make time for our own self-care.

During this 90-minute workshop, we’ll work with several types of circle drawings and explore ways to make Creative Mindfulness a regular self-care habit.

• Open to Caregivers
• No ‘Art Experience’ Required
• Workshop Meets via Zoom
• All Materials Provided

Registration is required and space is limited. Open to Healing Garden Caregivers. This program will meet on Zoom.

Led by Karen Arsenault

About the Facilitator: A metastatic cancer survivor since 2011, Karen Arsenault has found the creative process invaluable in navigating the fear and uncertainty of the cancer journey.  Through the many expressive arts workshops she has participated in, Karen developed a passion for watercolors and now gives back by developing and facilitating her own Creative Mindfulness workshops and donating her art in several forms to The Healing Garden.

This program is supported in part by generous funding from the Ayer, Carlisle, Concord, Groton, Harvard, Lunenburg, and Sudbury Cultural Councils, local agencies that are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
